2019/08 - Old Forge Garage Mewla Rally (3 images) - created by Adge on 04/09/2019 at 18:06:32
Last wekend saw the return of the RED Industries backed Adgespeed team of Adrian Spencer and Matt Daniels in their new Subaru Impreza. After driving an ex Petter Solberg Prodrive built Subaru Impreza S11 WRC car for several years, the cost of running the car was becoming too much, so Adgespeed built a replica S11 WRC car based on more cost effective parts, similar to his previous B13 Spec Impreza, which had many top results. After six months of work the car was finally ready and entered the Old Forge Garage Mewla Rally the 5th round of the National Asphalt Rally championship as a test and to get used to new car.

A cautious start to the event was made as not have rallied for over a year and the fact that the car was only finished the day before meant that as Adrian had not even driven the car a steady start was needed.

As the car is still being developed and lacking in power compared to other cars around, the team ended 40th O/A after the 1st loop of 3 stages which comprised 2 short 4 milers and 1 long 11 miler, unfortunately due to lack of power and unfamiliarity with the car Adrian and Matt were caught and passed in the stage.

After service to check the car over they set off for the repeat loop of the previous stages. A few niggling problems with the power steering didn't help matters, but with more confidence the pair climbed to 31st overall.

With some changes made at service and the weather still glorious they set off for stage 7 a 12 miler and with a good run and not being caught this time they moved up to 28th.

The the next 2 loops of stages being the same as the early ones but run in the opposite direction and with confidence in the car it was time to up the pace and they started setting times in the top 20, they moved up to 23rd O/A after the 3 stages and with not much to do in service, it was off for the last loop of 3 stages.

With 14th fastest time on the longer of the 3 stages the aim was to get into the top 20 and by the end of the rally they managed to achieve the goal.

All in all a great debut for the new car which ran reliably all day, which allowed Adrian to get back up to speed, as its been over 13 months since he last rallied and with improvements to come the prospect for the future look good.

The team will be back out for the last round of the championship the Cheviot Rally on the Otterburn ranges in the North East on the 22nd September.
